About Me

Leadership Begins with These

Being a respected leader begins with the following things:

* Honesty. Saying one thing and doing another is the quickest way coaches lose respect.

* Fairness - rules and expectations should be explained, along with the consequences associated with them.

* Enthusiasm beyond average.

* Willingness to teach every player, not just his or her own child or just the better players. Nowhere is respect gained or lost than in this area. Players, even young ones, recognize any slighting of others by the coaches.

* Awareness of and willingness to confront issues that disrupt team cohesiveness. If you allow issues to fester, a quick deterioration of team unity and respect for you follows.
