When Less Practice is Better

Parents often whence when I answer with "none" after they ask me in front of their son or daughter, "How much should they be practicing at home?"
The thing is quality of repetition trumps quantity. Until better arrives, practice to just practice is counterproductive, especially when done incorrectly. I try to convince them that until the player understands how to practice, and right from wrong, it is just making things worse. Less is often more in the beginning. Once players can do things right more often than wrong, then they cannot practice enough.
Often, it's a tough sell.
